Chilli Chocolate

While playing tour guide to a friend of mine from the UK, we found ourselves at Charmaine's at South Bank (South Gate? I always get them confused. Anyway, y'know, the one on the Yarra south of Flinders St station. (What's in the top floors of the station anyway? They look empty but I'm sure they should be full of Cool Stuff.)).

Chilli chocolate icecream. It's good. Not an everyday flavour like lemon sorbet or cookies and cream, but certainly a mighty fine quirky flavour. Deeeeelicious.

Oh. yeah, I tried it at the same place, years ago (mid 90's ?). I can remember the aftertaste hitting you more than anything else - it tastes normal enough up to then.

Until fairly recently, the upper floors of Flinders St Station were empty and semi-derelict. One of Melbourne's largest and most original ballrooms is on the upper floors; it was a sad shadow of itself until the renovations of last year. Now a lot of it is office space, and there were plans for upper level retail too. I'm not sure what the latest proposal is, but Flinders St is one of those perennial Melbourne failed icons, famous for what it was and famous for the attempts to restore it.
