crazy bargain

Our refurbished Bi-Lo opens today. In the three weeks since it closed, my life's certainly changed a fair bit - one by one, the various futures I was looking forward to have evaporated, so I'll be wandering the aisles with a different pair of eyes. Last week they were hanging up the new signs outside and repainting the walls - I narrowly missed getting a picture that would've encompassed the last 10 years (or so) of history, because you could see Tuckerbag's face hiding behind a layer of paint, next to which was an IGA logo. A crane lifted the new Bi-Lo logo up, which was attached next to these two. I should've taken a photo but the spare cycles in my brain were busy mulling over recent events, instead. Well, never mind.

I don't know what my first purchase will be. It's not like I need anything. But I need to go. I need to embrace this new, local thing. I need to give it a chance.

Our local at North Caulfield went through at least two identities. It started out as a Tucker Bag, and then became a Food Works. Same ownership and management throughout though. It made me realise that a commitment to a local shop is not a straightforward thing though, because they were evil. Unfriendly, difficult to deal with, prone to conducting open conflict across the cash registers, high prices, bad stock - it made shopping there a commitment to the abstract rather than actual. Hope Bi-Lo works out for you.
